Now imagine stumbling into a conference of psychologists during the expert
panel's discussion on developmental psychopathology, and then babbling
about how your mother never loved you enough.  Perhaps someone might
take pity and try to help you, but it's likely not the right forum, and 
these academics are not necessarily the right ones to help you.  You're 
taking up valuable time that they were planning on spending on something
else.  Even if they pay attention to your case, you might find that what
they focus on about you is not exactly what you'd like them to help you
with.

That's not what comp.lang.javascript is like.  But you should keep that
in mind as an alternate metaphor, because it's as close to the truth as
is a professional psychologist.

This is not a help group.  There are many people here who enjoy helping
out beginners, but not many who appreciate having that help taken for
granted or having that help expected of them.

This is a free-flowing discussion group.  The one who started the
discussion has little authority about where the continuing discussion
leads.

This is a group that has over many years developed its own quirks, its 
own cast of oddball characters, its own style of response.   In short, 
it is a community.  Someone new here does have to honor that and not 
simply insist that the community must bend to her or his preferences.

I happen to fall more on the be-nice-to-newbies end of the spectrum, but
I still appreciate questions that show research and offer me something of
technical interest.  I prefer questions that show that the poster has
actually read "How To Ask Qustions  The Right Way" [1]
