Quite a lot when you start talking about prototypes, the concepts are about the same. You have to search several lists until you find a match. Though, "small numbers of entries" is an indefinite value. It does probably depend largely (though not entirely) on the size of the "map" whether a linked-list or hash-map implementation is faster. However, a linked hash-map is *probably* fast enough for most JS use-cases, but I couldn't be certain without tests. Didn't Google do something fancy with chromes script engine to convert object properties to real "class fields"?
