I haven't been keeping up to date with JavaWS. If it is effectively
dead, what is the best way to create an app that I can share with other
users?

To be more specific, my current app needs to run on recent versions of
Windows and will be reading/storing/inserting/updating/deleting
information on a DB2 database (or maybe MySQL). It uses Java FX and FXML
for its GUI. An applet or application or web page would all be
acceptable ways for the users to run the program. I don't anticipate
using it on a phone or a non-Windows OS.

I can picture putting a separate local database on each user's machine
and then merging the updates together in some fashion but I'd strongly
prefer to have everyone sharing the same database.
