I have written two blog entries about higher-order functions with Java 8
lambda expressions. They can be found at

The second part is short and summarizes the content of this thread, plus
it gives the complete coding example.

The first part is more academic, perhaps suitable for use in
introductory courses.

I'd much appreciate any feedback. Either in the blog, or on this list.
