I find cppreference.com is a good reference, enough that I haven't felt the need of a book for that purpose. But the book was good for understanding how the language is put together and how to use it. > Bjarne Stroustrup Programming: Principles and Practice Using C++ $46 That's supposed to be a good book, though I haven't looked at it myself. There are some samples and other info on Stroustrup's web site. > I added "Effective Modern C++" by Scott Mayer to my list, that one is > about $25 for the eBook, I just went and bought it, It's a good book, aimed mostly at people familiar with older C++ versions. It sounds like you used some C++ in the past, so you're in about the same boat that I was in when I read it. > and if it's no good I'll send that Mafia after you. That's even more expensive than the book, unfortunately. I should check whether they offer quantity discounts--I might want to place a bulk order. ;-) > Rather than convert to C I will take the opportunity to become more > familiar with C++ which I put off long enough. Good plan I think. C++ in its current incarnation is a totally different language from C, with some legacy C stuff left lingering around in it.

And for you C++ fiends out there I have a copy of Microsoft Visual Studio Pro 2013 that is not installed I assume that is for C++ Version 11 at least, anyone know? -- Cecil - k5nwa

And that means? And what do you consider to be a good C compiler?

No, pforth was written by Phil Burk while he was at 3DO. SP-Forth was
started by Andrey Cherezov and it's authors are "Russian Forth
Interest Group with the help of many contributors".

I thought I was browsing pforth...deb but actually I was browsing spforth...deb I had downloaded earlier. That means my comment applies to spforth. pforth seems to be a solid Forth, as you expect from a Debian package, but nothing spectecular. > >- anton -- Albert van der Horst, UTRECHT,THE NETHERLANDS Economic growth -- being exponential -- ultimately falters. albert@spe&ar&c.xs4all.nl &=n http://home.hccnet.nl/a.w.m.van.der.horst
