Some of you know that I've been working on a cross-platform "Forth-like"
language for a while now.

I'm happy and proud to announce that it is now availble to the public.
If you are curious, you can find out more on our site:

http://8th-dev.com/

Best regards,
Ron

Sorry, but for me the link https://8th-dev.com/buy.html isn't working.

chrome says: "This webpage is not available".
iexplore says: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

I am going through a proxy, but I'm not sure if that's the issue or not.

Recently I posted a message asking the German-speakers to translate the word "sonderkommando" for me:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/comp.lang.forth/sonderkommando/comp.lang.forth/0d8nf85AlLI/fUr4b9219GIJ

The first response I got (within less than an hour), was from an anonymous poster who provided a link:
http://www.holocaustresearchproject.org/revolt/sonderevolt.html

Were you the anonymous poster? The reason that I think it was you, is because this is obviously an Israeli website, and you are the only Israeli who frequents comp.lang.forth.

Interesting logic. Sorry to disappoint you, it wasn't me.

That is "interesting logic"? Why would anybody post a link to an Israeli website if they weren't Israeli?

If visitors to that website click on anything in it, Google stops them with a warning that this website has been found to attempt to install malware programs on the user's computer that may steal or delete information from the hard-disk.

I can't prove that it was you --- but you are the only suspect.

Really? Do only Americans post on American sites, or Germans on German
sites?

I'm upset that I don't have any stock in Alcoa. The tinfoil hat
business is a thriving one it seems.

In any event, none of this has to do with Forth or Forths or 8th.

I don't even know what to say about this. You seem to be on a jag about
Israelis and I expect there is nothing anyone can do about it.

As is often the case you are full of crap. I visited the site and
received no warnings of malware or anything else untoward. I did this
with both Firefox and Chrome.

Yes, all the usual suspects. OH! You forgot yourself...

You're lying. I tried it right now. I went to the link I provided earlier then clicked on <home> and got the warning from Google. This was:
http://www.holocaustresearchproject.org/toc.html

The reason why this being an Israeli website is significant, is because such a website would be shut down in America or Germany or any other country, but in Israel it is allowed to stay up (Russia and China are also countries where this kind of attack is common).

This website is hosted by GoDaddy. It's in Arizona, not Israel.

Sucuri sitecheck confirms that malware has been seen on it:
http://sitecheck.sucuri.net/results/www.holocaustresearchproject.org/toc.html
... but it's not necessarily still malicious. Also, malware on websites is
overwhelmingly due to hacks and password compromises; the website is
broken into and then exploited for one nefarious purpose or another.
This is so common that I'd only suspect deliberate malware by the site
owner in the case that the content of the website is already very
dubious.

This site is also very high on Google's results for 'sonderkommando'.
Someone googled the answer to your question and emailed it to you.

You are not under attack. Nobody is gunning for you. Except for the
elite ANS Forth assassins... but you're not high on their list. You'll
need to release your nonstandard Forthalike like Ron has before you
need to worry.

This is a mistake on my part. I should have never responded to this guy.

I'll chime in.

As of the moment, 10:09am PST, all of the links on the 8th website
are working for me. Earlier the link to the buy.html page was not
working for me. That may have been a connection issue on my end.
I'm not sure.

This is the first time I've seen a Forth or Forth like language
presented in such a visually appealing and modern looking website.
I will recommend to those launching new Forths to do likewise.

I liked the introduction video. It was cute. I notice an effort
to make an appealing sales representation.

The three big things that I noticed which appeal to me about this are.
1. It's Forth Like, so I already have some familiarity with it.
2. It makes a attempt to secure and hide your code so that other
less creative developers would have a hard time reverse engineering
your product. I assert that 98% of the time leaving the headers in
is correct. It certainly is a safety feature to do so. But when
releasing commercial software I feel that it is desirable to hide
your code from people who would reverse engineer it.
3. It is multi-platform. As I have no idea as to how to achieve this
myself, I would be on the lookout for a Forth which had this capability
Especially I would for cross development across desktops and cell phones.

One drawback which I saw
1. There is no CREATE DOES>
Without reading the manual, which I don't have time for at the moment,
I would consider this as a strike against the product. I feel very
comfortable with CREATE DOES> and like to use them.

I'm too busy doing other things right now to try this. I have a
few jobs and a special project I'm obsessed with.

I would consider this if I was going to go multi-platform. I've
had a few ideas.

I do love plain old Forth though.

I side with Albert on this one. YMMV ;)

Thank you. We put a lot of effort into making it more generally appealing.

Yes, that is true. We made a strategic decision to omit 'CREATE DOES>',
since it is very difficult to explain to non-Forthers, and we could not
come up with a convincing enough use-case to justify the added
complexity. We may still be convinced otherwise...

I hope so. It is one of the features that really lifts Forth into a
unique category of languages. I have found that explaining using OOP
terminology (e.g., the CREATE ... DOES> definition constructs a new
class of words, for which the code following DOES> represents the
behavior of all instances of this class).

Cheers,
Elizabeth

Yes. I think that 8th might do better to make its very thin OOP be able
to leverage the idea of DOES>. We'll have to ponder this a bit.

Thanks!
