That's a tough sell. We would have to know which ones you're talking about
because from here it looks very much like UNIX won because it is free as in
beer. If that doesn't convince you then Linux should.

What about the large number of desktops that aren't Windows or won't buy
into Microslopware?

Dare to dream! Nothing would make me happier than reading Linus threw
himself off the Empire State Building or equivalent and that everybody who
ever worked on Bell Labs UNIX and everything that ever descended from it (if
that is even possible, all things considered) died of old age and they lost
all their code, so...
