Yes, go ahead.  If you need some assembler, the ABI-CODE words are the right 
way (they call code with the usual calling convention of the platform, so 
you don't have to know which register is your stack - that's non-portable).

It uses etags, so there is only one flat list.  So it will not work if 
different vocabularies have the same word inside.  Also, if you want to add 
your own code to the TAGS file, you have to compile it with

gforth etags.fs <your files>

This will produce a TAGS file, which you combine with the system's TAGS file 
(you or we probably want to automate this, so a shell script like this would 
help):

cat /usr/local/share/$(gforth --version 2>&1 | tr ' ' '/')/TAGS >>TAGS

However, I think that a header change for view is not too complicated: the 
view field would go first; it would contain the number of the file (in the 
loadfilenames array), the line and the cursor position.  VIEW still would 
use emacsclient, but with +<line>:<cpos> <file> instead.
