For Edward Nash Yourdon, rather than list a whole raft of links I will just 
give you the Wikipedia entry about him. Several of his works are listed 
there.

Essentially, Polya gave a method for solving problems in a mathematically 
guided manner and is the basis for decent decomposition of a problem space 
towards discovering a solution space. 

Yourdon concentrated on aspects of what makes good software functions in 
Real Time Systems and underpins some of the rules for constructing Forth 
Words.
