But it suffers from non-portability.  It does not load on gforth,
SwiftForth, or VFX.

VFX includes a variant of this file that does not load without ado on
gforth, SwiftForth, or even vfxlin (it uses "\" as directory
separator).  It contains harnesses for various Forth systems, but
requires changing the source file in order to change the harness.

Sigh.
