Okay, I have to admit. I had to look up the official definition of a declaration in C in order to follow this thread. My excuse is that I don't use C at my job. This is because writing C programs doesn't get me laid. However, writing Java programs with a flashy lights does. It's the kind of stuff where the women in the both the procurement and finance department go "You're so smart." Then you end up going to a bar after work, and yeah...

Mr. Hodgin drifted from C programming to religion
And you drifted from programming, not even C, to sex life.

Well, do you really need Java or C to make you look smart? :)

Well, I can't speak for C, but according to a few semi confused Ph.D.s, you're "smart" if you know things like late binding in Java. Yes, late binding is a difficult concept to grasp. But it's really not that much worse than dealing pointers in C.

You don't need anything to make you look smart. Just find some foolish
girls, especially slave girls coming from poor families. I believe many
countries have them.... governments rely on slaves to do dirty jobs.

Do you find that ugly? :)

There are two programmers by me that came from poor families. The one guy's family actually left when he was a kid. He told me if they didn't flee, the military would have killed his dad, raped his mom, and then he would more than likely live as a slave. The other guy shares as similar horror story.

They could be lying to get a place in your country! Anyway... the world
is always ugly when it came to sex! I am shying away from this kind of
topics. :)

Uhh..no since the one guy works as an Engineer at the Corporate office in San Francisco. And the only reason I know is because my office is three blocks away. Do you want to make anymore stupid assumptions?

No. Because I don't play refugee infiltration/invasion. ;)

As edge cases go, that's pretty awesome.

I'd personally do something like

    label:
; // this statement intentionally left blank

or something similar to make it stand out.

As for the "should it be necessary", short of updating the grammar, the answer is
unfortunately yes. I'll admit, this is an interesting side effect of allowing intermixed
declarations and statements that I never saw coming. I haven't used a goto in anger
for well over a decade (at least in production code),
