(This thread is already hopeless off-topic.)

/I/ would be humble about giving such an opinion - because I don't know
enough about the circumstances. I don't know, for example, whether the
private server here was better or worse secured than the official one -
I could easily imagine it being more secure, though that is unlikely to
make using it the right course of action. I don't know how common it is
to use independent servers instead of the official ones for people high
in the US administration - certainly Trump's family did exactly the same
thing. Perhaps it is common practice. I don't know to what extent, if
any, Clinton was actually involved in the use of the server or the
choice of it - I would find it very believable to think that she had no
more clue about the technical details than the average politician, and
relied entirely on an IT staff member.

It is certainly clear that Trump scored a lot of points in the election
campaign by focusing on Clinton's email server. But it is far from
clear, to me at least, that it was her fault (not just her
responsibility), whether it was a real national security risk, or
whether it was an unusual situation. It is not even clear that it
actually affected the election in any way - if it hadn't happened, I am
sure Trump would have found something else to focus on instead.

There is a lot more that goes on in politics than the simplified
versions shown in the media, and perhaps we /should/ be humble about
expressing opinions on much of it. On the other hand, that would spoil
the fun of discussing politics. Maybe these folks have got it right:

<https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-35524966/house-of-shame-parliament-brawls-around-the-world>

That seems a much more civilised way to settle political disagreements,
rather than fixating on email servers...

When I first heard about Her server, I just assumed it had to be big
time secure, nothing to see here, move along! Encrypted, nice and neat.
The damn Comey comments made me nervous. He acted sort of weird, and
called Her extremely careless, or something like that. That tripped me up!

If any people from Trumps side uses that same type of setup, they should
be busted as well. At least heavily reprogrammed into using the standard
NSA protocols and devices, or whatever.

It seems my comment came across differently than how I meant it.
I was deliberately not expressing any opinion on the political
topic, but only about being humble (or not) in expressing the
opinion in question. Slightly satirically humorous, nothing
more.

Weird coincidence. I was at a restaurant yesterday that had a potrait
of Lech Walesa on the wall. We didn't have a clue who it was. We could
identify most of the other pictures but mistook Joseph Pulitzer for
Trotsky.

No, and we're not related, nor have we ever met.

("The_Other_Keith" in my sig was my nickname at a previous job.
A co-worker had the same first name but a different last name.
We called him The_Other_Other_Keith.)

I thanks for that. I had assumed it was to avoid being confused with
Ken Thompson - the The_Other_Ken.

Not a nick name, but maybe a transformation of the name. Even maybe some

Not all nicknames or short forms are logical even to native speakers.
I'm guessing, by his (or her?) name that Mehdi Amini is not a native
English speaker - perhaps it seemed like a logical nickname to him.

A person might have a full name "Alexander", but be known to some people
as "Alex" and others as "Sandy".

Likewise: William vs. Bill, Richard vs. Dick and so on.

People are giving various examples of nicknames -- and yes, I am a
Joseph who goes by Joe, my son is a Joseph who goes by Joel (which is a
really unusual nickname, I grant you), and his son is a Joseph who goes
by J.

But I still haven't seen an actual example of a Kenneth who goes by
Keith.
