I think he is using the European date standard, which is day-month-year
so that would be August second.

For "day month year" there should be dot used as a separator: 02.08.2011
- for "month day year" - a slash: 08/02/2011
- for "year month day" - a hyphen: 2011-08-02

No more ambiguity! ;)

How about we adopt the "Worldwide Computing Standard" which is Year-
Month-Day. In ost of East Asia Y.M.D is standard.

How about giving at least three letters of the name of the month?
2 Aug. 2011. Then (nearly?) everybody will be able to figure out what
you mean.

That helps a little by avoiding the month/day confusion but asking
everyone to learn the English month abbreviations won't ever get wide
international support (nor should it) and supporting lots of languages
makes processing dates hard. YYYY-MM-DD is the way to go if you want to
avoid confusion while permitting simple automatic processing.

OK, smilie noted, but the Y10K problem comes from mistakes in the way
dates are stored, not in how they are represented as numbers.
YYYY-MM-DD was not meant to suggest you somehow restrict the year to
four characters; it's a shorthand for at least four digits.

What I think is that in all these talks and coverage, the word
"corruption" doesn't come up ever. Somehow we'll push granny down the
hill yet still pay bp $400/gallon for gas in afghanistan, $150 for a
bolt to an f-16, and the highest dollar imaginablr for presecription drugs.

The biggest problem is that Obama wants a straight rasie in the credit
limit without having to trim even the planned rate of increase in
spending and the Republicans want a balanced budget at some point in
the future (and preferably to write a requireent for it into the
Constitution). The Tea Party faction of the Republicans wants a
balanced budget NOW.

What WILL happen is that things will go up to the last minute and
either the Secretary of the Treasury will "find" extra money that
extends the deadline for a few days or both houses will vote and the
President will sign a temporary increase in the credit limit while
they work out a greater compromise.

It is POSSIBLE that one side or the other will cave, but the most
likely outcome is that we get a freeze on spending increases for a
period of time and the credit limit will be increased by the amount
that this reduces the planned rate of increase for the next 10 years.
My guess is that they will push out the borrowing authority until some
time in the Spring of 2012, probably after the first heavy round of
presidential primaries in late March. April 15 would be strangely
appropriate, but they couldn't hit it that close even if they tried
because revenues and expeditures vary accordnng to ecconomic
conditions and it is anybody's guess as to what will happen on that
front.

The problem is that you are a moron. No more need be said.

That, and, of course, the fact that this is comp.lang.c - where we take
topicality very seriously.

As you may know, to balance a budget you have 2 measures to do:

(1) Decrease spending
(2) Increase revenues.

The republicans propose that the poorest people do all the effort,
since as everybody knows, the poor are lazy (that's why they are poor)
and besides they are unwashed, mostly black or immigrants, and have many
other bad characteristics. They should pay the debts...

Then, their only proposal is that spending in health, education,
etc that mainly benefit the poor are cut so that the poor billionaires
can go on avoiding any taxes.

Yes. They will all agree that the poor are guilty, and they will
therefore increase the contribution of the poor for debt service.

I will bet that following items will go on increasing:

(1) Pentagon budget. The U.S.A make 43% of world military expenses.
    That will increase.

(2) Money for the poor banks and financial institutions that should be
    rewarded for making bad loans.

(3) Money for big corporations so that the U.S.A (for instance) pays to
poor oil companies their research and debvelopment in generous tax
cuts. Just to name one of them: General Electric doesn't pay any
taxes to the U.S. Treasury. Nice isn't it?

They will push the whole issue after the election when the elected
candidate will do exactly the opposite of what he/she promised during
the campaign.

If you do not believe me just look at what happened during the last
election.

The U.S.A. has the best democracy money can buy.

> what do they say repubblicans?
> where is the problem republicans-Obama?
>

The problem with debts is that you have to pay them one day.
Republicans have increased enormously the debts of the U.S.A.
during the last decade. Their strategy was twofold:

1) Increase spending.
2) Decrease revenues.

They increased spending in very important things like a war
in Iraq, a war in Afghanistan, and many other necessary investments
for the future.

They decreased revenues by exempting the billionaires and most big
corporations from paying taxes. For instance, General Electric
doesn't pay any taxes in the U.S.A.

Now, the debts have piled up and somebody has to pay them.

Republicans say that the debts should be paid by the poor.

As we all know, the poor are lazy, unwashed and dirty, so it is
normal that they pay the bills.

Democrats make a show as if they would disagree, and there is a lot
of drama going on. Basically however, democrats agree with all the
republicans policies. For instance, they continued the Bush era
tax cuts, an essential pillar of the deficit making.

What will happen?

At the last minute, both parties will agree that:

1) No new taxes should be decided for the poor billionaires
(No new revenues for the treasury)
2) The middle and lower classes (specially the lower ones)
should be burdened with all the effort of paying the bills.

This is because Americans have the best democracy money can buy.

Yes, of course. Sometimes even I get sick. :-)

It costs me around 200$ per month for my family (4 people) and covers
dentists, glasses, all medical costs, and covers all medical expenses
(hospital, doctor, medicaments, etc) with no limits.

In general health care is here much better than in the U.S.A. and much
cheaper. This is not a good thing of course, and our beloved president
Sarkozy is doing his best to destroy the health system and make it
more profitable for the insurance companies and the pharma industry
as in the U.S.A.

So far he has had a little success.

The amount of discretionary income (income after all expenses
have been paid) depends on your discretion, i.e. on what you
consider expenses that you MUST pay.

For instance, the republicans and the democrats agree that
"national security" is something that can't be avoided. Other
people would say that it is the costs of empire maintenance that
are so big that are leading the countrry to a financial ruin
and that THOSE costs should be cut FIRST.

Fact is, the U.S.A is spending in the military almost the same
amount of money as all other countries combined.

The U.S. spends 43% of the world military spending, what is not
bad for a country that has not known country that is openly
challenging its supremacy. Since the disappearing of the
Soviet Union, the military were seeking frantically an enemy
that would justify that spending. Luckily they found bin laden
but now that the guy is dead the question appears again:

Why spend so much money in war?

Excuse me but since I am not an american citizen I can't propose
anything.

This has to be solved by the americans themselves, hard working
people able to do great things.
