I've gotten a response on aioe.news.helpdesk, subject
Incorrect "charset=windows-1252" in header
(Those of you not using aioe won't be able to see the messages.)
The owner of the server indicates that the server doesn't change that
header, and that it must have had "charset=windows-1252" when it left
jacob's system. And yet jacob showed a header with "charset=utf-8",
which I presume he copy-and-pasted. I don't know what to think.
Incidentally, I've since noticed that a lot of other posters have
"charset=windows-1252" in their articles (perhaps because they post from
Windows?). I hadn't noticed because most of them only have ASCII
content, while jacob quite understandably uses some accented letters.
I'll continue looking into this, but not as a high priority.
I think getting Gnus to recognize windows-1252 is likely to be
the best solution.
