I though you were going to show this:

{
int i = 100, j = 100;
for (int i = 0; i < 3; i++)

because it really /does/ work for nested loops!

I see danger the other way. Using a short variable name like i or j for
several different things can be confusing for the reader, and you can't
get any help from the compiler. But if your for-loop-constrained
variable happens to shadow the same name in an outer scope, you can get
the compiler to tell you.
