(c) Whine about how everyone else writes software on Usenet. What isn't going to happen is that people will stop using autoconf and make because you don't like them. Personally, I hate autoconf, but I don't know the problems it solves well enough to try to replace it, and it has the benefit (for me) that it just works. I suppose you could consider switching to Linux, since I've not had to run a configure script for years -- most often you just install the required pre-built package. And of you do need to run ./configure; make you'll find it probably just works. <snip> -- Ben.
