For one thing everyone uses abbreviations and contractions in written English. You've (sorry, you have) used two in that very paragraph. It's (sorry it is) very common to write things like "the UK", "the USA", "e.g", "i.e.", "etc." in prose. But prose is very different to code. For one thing the contractions and abbreviations used in English are few (in proportion) and largely well-known, so my saying that they are ubiquitous in English is not a good counter-argument either. > Why not?
