We have a perfect illustration in this discussion.

See Thomas' reply of my lossless coding example.
In considerable length he speculates about the way how
I make the DCT lossless. He could find the answer simply
be looking in the source code or the mentioned document
where it is explained. But no, he does not do that,
instead he speculates. And the answer is so simple:
It is just a 1-point DCT, bingo (both 1- and 2-point
DCTs are lossless).
Similarly, to come back the original post, you wondered
what jpegtran -scale does. I told you, but you could
find out yourself as well by looking at the source code
or the given document which explaines the SmartScale
features (which are all manifestations of the first
fundamental DCT property).

So that is how your "research" works: Speculating and
asking other people, but never figure out yourself.

And that is because you are identified with your mind
which covers up your consciousness.
The unconscious mind can only speculate and create more
problems.
And now you know what you have to avoid like the plague:
Do never look into the IJG source or the mentioned
document, that is dangerous, because there you could
find the answer and solution, and then your mind couldn't
further speculate. That would be the death of your mind,
and because you are identified with it, the death of
your false self. But then there is something that is
called consciousness - it is unconditioned, present,
timeless, eternal, immortal - your real self, but you
are not aware of it.

The JPEG committee is made up of all unconscious minds,
and over the years they have created so much confusion
that now they have completely lost their real basis.
That's why they invite me, so as to restore the basis.
That is my business - maintaining the real basis,
while their job is to speculate. This has to be
accepted, but I'll stay in my business and not start
to speculate.

ciao
