Are there Verizon resellers that have a physical (store or manned
kiosk) presence in the bay area?

Yes, a great many.

Google "verizon authorized retailer" along with zip code of the city.

I stated my question very badly. What I am looking for are cell
service providers that use Verizon's network. Like what Cricket does
for AT&T.

These service providers offer prices that are better than the
underlying network (AT&T, Verizon, etc.).

You mean MVNOs?

Doesn't Straight Talk at Walmart give you the option to use the AT&T or
Verizon networks?

That is true, but I think David is looking for more help than Walmart
can offer.

Cellfone in Cupertino used to offer PagePlus and I think that they still
offer Redpocket <https://goredpocket.com/plans>. Boom is probably the
best deal for a Verizon MVNO right now, but they have no retailers.

I wonder what the need for a storefront is. I switched to Cricket and
had no need to ever go to a store, and stores charged a lot more to get
started.

I am very happy with Boom.

My owl is shopping for a service provider and indeed, Redpocket came up
in her search. Right now, Redpocket has an astonishing deal up on
amazon.com: 5 GBytes per month data, everything else unlimited, $255/year.
We found some reviews of Redpocket on the web (Howard Forums etc.) that
were pretty bad. But what do you think of them?

My owl has done a few number ports at storefronts and she believes that
they happened instantly. That is very valuable to her, although I don't
trust her memory 100%. We might not use a storefront if we have to pay
up a lot for it, but I would still like to know what's out there. The
value of the storefront is that problems can be solved quickly. That
was her experience with Cricket, anyway.

Where is that deal? I see this <https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01D50H1L2>
for $255 but it is 3GB per month.

How do you make sure that you're not on Sprint with Red Pocket?

You are correct. Anyway, it is still a phenomenal bargain.

>How do you make sure that you're not on Sprint with Red Pocket?

I have not gone through the sign up process so I don't know. A Q&A on
Amazon suggests that you make the choice once, and then you are not
allowed to change it. That's OK with me.

That's different, since Cricket is owned by AT&T.

> These service providers offer prices that are better than the

PagePlus used to have some authorized retailers, there was one in
Cupertino, but after Carlos Slim's América Móvil acquired them, the
store in Cupertino dropped PagePlus. I know that they've been reducing
commissions.

See <https://www.pagepluscellular.com/dealers/>

PagePlus isn't a bad deal at $36 (with autopay) for 3GB of high-speed
data and unlimited talk and text. Boom is $40 for 5GB of data.

I am currently on Cricket and have never been in a Cricket store. It's
much more expensive to start service if you go to a Cricket store (all
franchises) than if you go direct or through a dealer that will set you
up remotely. I'm sure that a Page Plus dealer, if any actually still
exist, will charge you for whatever it is you need them to do.

AT&T isn't quite as good as Verizon, but I've been fine with Cricket,
and I get 5 lines with 4GB of data per line, for $100.
