That's different, since Cricket is owned by AT&T.

PagePlus used to have some authorized retailers, there was one in
Cupertino, but after Carlos Slim's América Móvil acquired them, the
store in Cupertino dropped PagePlus. I know that they've been reducing
commissions.

See <https://www.pagepluscellular.com/dealers/>

PagePlus isn't a bad deal at $36 (with autopay) for 3GB of high-speed
data and unlimited talk and text. Boom is $40 for 5GB of data.

I am currently on Cricket and have never been in a Cricket store. It's
much more expensive to start service if you go to a Cricket store (all
franchises) than if you go direct or through a dealer that will set you
up remotely. I'm sure that a Page Plus dealer, if any actually still
exist, will charge you for whatever it is you need them to do.

AT&T isn't quite as good as Verizon, but I've been fine with Cricket,
and I get 5 lines with 4GB of data per line, for $100.
