Should The President order the immediate distribution of vitamin supplements, or should he have FEMA send body bags and let nature take its course? Such a conundrum, innit? -- Grizzly H.

Yes, we have those. In fact, I lived in a town with its own generating plant. It was on a river on the south end of town, near the airport. Back in '65 there was a huge blackout that shut down the entire east coast of the United States. Airplanes couldn't land because they couldn't see nothing. It was terrible, but not in my town. Our generating plant disconnected from the grid, and flipped the switch, and there we were - lights and everything. And then the lost planes started landing. It was quite a party, up there at the airport. The plane people ate all the cheeseburgers, and then they ate all the fried chicken and the french fries, and filled up all the hotels, and some of us drove to the airport to see all the planes. It was a pretty interesting time. Then, the next year, the electric company shut down the powerplant and scrapped the generators and after that they said there wasn't enough power to cover the demands of growth which meant they had to build a nuke plant and make electricity so cheap that everybody could afford electric heat, big modern refrigerators, and powerful light bulbs that defeat, very powerfully, the darkness. -- Grizzly H.

Here, I saw recently, an Aboriginal relating a story about some health problem that happened some time ago on one of our remote islands. She said that the community asked our Federal government for assistance in the health emergency they were having and the response was that they were sent body bags. > Such a conundrum, innit? >
