Fair enough. For me KDE feels like they push to have every feature they can
think of without much concern for how well they work or how well they
integrate with each other.

This does mean you can get features not seen elsewhere... but it also means
things will be far more quirky.

I think it comes down to your needs and tastes. It is not as if I am right
for not liking KDE and you are wrong... or one person is right or wrong for
preferring one OS over another. I do not get the "religious" attachment some
people get to a tool.

I happen to be Slackware user. If I die without ever seeing Ubuntu, Mint 
or similar, I am not going to think that I missed something in my life. 
It means that I have no first hand experience.

However, from what I've heard, you should no expect significant 
improvement from switching to KDE, or changing distro to Ubuntu.

KDE might have some high quality apps, and, perhaps, offers more 
continuity across versions. However, you can run KDE apps from Cinnamon, 
as well. No need to switch to KDE to run KDE apps.

You seem like a person who is not ready to dive deeper into Linux 
internals at this point, although you might change the attitude later, 
many do. I'd say that Mint/Cinnamon is as good as any for you.

Oh I can tinker, and I know bash well enough.  I started with a 
proprietary *nix in 1980 or so, moved to SCO unix, then to Red Hat and 
finally about 10ish years ago to mint.

I think you and others might be right that I'll never move.   I've spent 
3+ years playing with mint, and the last 9 mos using it totally 100% 
after getting kinda fed up with Win 10.   I know mint cinnamon so well, 
and where so much configuration is, and how to adjust so much,  I may 
never move.  I tried xfce per one conversation and I'm having a lot of 
issues making it look good.   Of course it took me months to make mint 
look good, so why would I think I can do xfce in a day. :-)
