Not to intimate in any way that you're a troll! No, I never meant to
insinuate that and just now saw how my words might be easily taken the
wrong way.

Please don't take offense, and if you have, I'm sorry.

I haven't taken any offense, no need to apologize.
We're good.

Thanks for that. I'm usually much more precise in my wording and was
surprisingly quite embarrassed to have suggested that you might be a
troll.

Some of these dopes are like Trump supporters. If one speaks against
him, suddenly they are branded "hater" and "Libtard", among other
things. Here, it's "troll" and "why is he even here?".

The world went and got past "political correctness" and fell straight
into twilight zone level "political stupidity.

I have been called a troll for years because I cuss and call someone
stupid occasionally.

Then there are the dopes with the retarded list of reasons why one has
lost an argument. "Oh you are making grammar and spelling jabs now,
because you have no argument" when the pukes are so bad at grammar
their stupid shines through like a beacon. The list goes on. Some
monikers are not merely ad hominem, they are actually accurate
descriptions.

I am sorry, fuckheads, that I am not eloquent in my speech or do not
always post with a linux based news client.

Seems some of the things the letter spaced one said is true.

No, there is NO RULE that one has to participate in a group in a
positive role.

OCCASIONALLY???? That's gotta be the numero uno understatement of the
century.

"Sorry" is a recognition that you did something that harmed someone else
and carries an unstated promise that you won't do it again.

"Sorry, fuckheads" is the opposite. It shows zero remorse and promises
to do it again.

No, it's just simple common courtesy when communicating with your fellow
man.

It's the ability to communicate on the merits of the TOPIC at hand
without, denigrating the PERSON with whom you disagree.

Calling people names weakens your position. Inciting a UTI
in every thread is despicable.

I won't have anything nearly as eloquent to say (in support of Ubuntu)
as Marek says a few posts down. But mainly I'm just tired of arguing
with you. Tired of seeing how negative you've become. I don't even
really care if you diss on Ubuntu like you do, you just seem bitter. I
hate seeing you come to this after all these years. The majority of your
posts are just negative. It can't be healthy for you.

I get what you're saying. I really do. Ubuntu/Mark they've pissed you
off and gone completely against your personal politics and
sensibilities. I dig it, I do. And can relate, more than you'd believe.
not on this particular point, but other issues of which I feel much more
passionately. But I digress, and save for another discussion. Maybe over
a beer some day.

I wouldn't dare try to censor you. Just wondering if you're not
ultimately doing yourself more harm (mind/spirit) and actually
undermining your goal of honouring and advocating for a more true or
purist vision of a better open source model operating system.

You're wrong about this. Or at the very least incredibly hyperbolic.
"Antithetical" to the ideas of open software? Really? Come on, man.
That's silly. If you want to pick on someone who has built their career
on open source and have turned their back on the community for the most
part. Go after RedHat or that other fruity company which shall remain
nameless (with a fruit for a logo) that only steals from the open source
community and doesn't give back.

At least Ubuntu doesn't have a fucking enterprise version which you can
only get with paid support. Or closed off their once great 'desktop'
version and instead created a 'you're all just beta testers for our
enterprise version' community version. Ubuntu has committed to always be
free and open. Only one OS, not a free version and a paid-for Ubuntu
Enterprise version.

They are both, still incredible, yes.

You know I've said this before and I'll say it again. I don't agree nor
condone any of the idiot things Mark has said or done. He's been a real
douche at times, yes. But he's not Ubuntu to me. Ubuntu is just the OS.
I know, but I don't care that it's a Canonical trademark. I don't care
that its owner is a dick at times. Ubuntu, the OS, isn't the politics
and bullshit that either Canonical or Mark advocate. I use Ubuntu
because an open source Operating system (yes, open source). It's free
for anyone to use. It's fucking Linux, man. That's all I really care
about here. I just want to get *Linux* into the hands, minds and boxes
of all the peoples of the world(s). If they could, I'd love that OS to
be Debian, or Slack, or Arch. I don't care. All I care is that Linux
gets all those other fucking operating systems off of computers. Be they
Windows or fruity OSs. I just think Ubuntu (and now Ubuntu's offspring
Mint, et al) have a better shot than all other distros.

And technically speaking, it's a damn solid OS. Particularly the LTS
releases. Both, on desktop and server. Solid!

> I try to avoid knowingly supporting bigots and misogynists

As you should. And I thank you for it.

If you believe so, then by all means please continue.
Just not sure the OS needs to be punished for any jerk things he's done.

You know, you caused me to question my reasons for being here and my
participation while I am. I have since reviewed my own posts for the
past year and can't agree with your assessments either of my negativity
or my bitterness (really? bitter? nah. see my smiley face: <;-} ).

If /you/ were to review those posts I think you might change your
mind.

Of course I do engage with the trolls a bit more than I probably should
but even then my overall spirit is more tongue-in-cheek poking than
overtly negative. I'm a lot more a joker than I am upset or angry.
It's really pretty hard to get me angry and usually has to do with
someone disparaging either That Danged Wife or Those Danged Daughters.

I am a very protective man.

On the up side I also try to help out when/where I can but I'm no
guru although I have accumulated some slight Linux knowledge over the
years. Nor do I push my anti-Ubuntu agenda very much at all. If a
subject comes up, yes, I'll address it and will put out facts about my
experiences with both Ubuntu and Mr. Shuttleworth. Even then, not all
are negative. I had a very nice run with Ubuntu before it became clear
that it was off the rails of its original 'feeling of
Ubuntu' (togetherness, inclusion, ready for all no matter the economic
level) direction.

And against their /OWN STATED POLICIES/ from the early days. Those
changes are what I don't care for. It just seems duplicitous and
under-handed to me. Were they to go back to original thinking I would
likely go back to Ubuntu.

Wayback machine their manifesto from early on and compare it with
today's. Do the same with the Code Of Conduct.

(they actually made some decent changes to that COC and some of them are
directly due to my own pushing on the Ubu-users list and the Sounder
list)

??? Red Hat gives back plenty and always have, particularly to the
kernel. Even as a big-time server OS supplier and support seller they
still have a free of cost OS for the public. Yes, it's a testbed. So
is Ubuntu.

I've no experience either with that fruit company nor its BSD
beginnings.

Ubu, OTOH, grudgingly gives back as little as possible. That has long
been known and been a major point of contention within the open source
community.

Don't fool yourself; of course it is. It is fully under the control or
either Mark or Mark's wholly-owned company. How, then, can it be other
than what he is? He makes the rules; he gives the orders.

I agree with your hopes, I agree with your assessment of Ubu and Mint.
I just can't support either of them because of my philosophical
differences with their owners. Therefore, Debian for me.

C'mon, how can I, a lowly lowly user, have much impact? So far I know
of absolutely no one who has abandoned either Ubu or Mint because of
my diatribes.

I do know of perhaps a couple of hundred who abandoned it when I did
and for much the same reasons.

I'm glad that you took some time to think on and review some posts. I'll
do the same. Especially future posts. I'm sure I've been quite biased to
your posts (in general) because the ones that are quite negative
(anti-ubuntu) are quite jarring to me. So I'm sure I've been looking

Hey man, I dig it; nothing comes close to Debian's Social Contract and
The Debian Free Software Guidelines. I wish everyone (especially
corporations) could operate using those standards.

I may have overstated in regards to RedHat. I really did just mean
closing off the once-great RedHat OS (free and available to all) and not
at least leave available the iso for anyone to install and use. And just
charge for support to those who need. Which is pretty much what they're
hoping by bringing CentOS into their 'family'. A free RedHat clone that
should entice more people to move to paid support.

Not sure I follow regarding ubuntu begin a testbed? They don't have an
enterprise (paid) version and a community (free) version.

> Don't fool yourself; of course it is. It is fully under the control or
> either Mark or Mark's wholly-owned company. How, then, can it be other

I don't entirely disagree. But still not what I'm talking about. I don't
really care about the control or the politics of the company nor the
owner, or who's controlling or directing what. Ubuntu, the OS, just the
OS, can be anything I want it to be. They can add whatever they want.
I'll just remove it and use it as I want. So, until it uses a license
restricting me from modifying it as I wish, I don't care nor do I fault
the OS for the bullshit of its governors.

The community is still doing great things with Ubuntu
(vagrant/docker/cloud communities). Anyone doing devops is using it. It
(the OS) is all I care about. It's still open source, it's still free
(libre) software. It's great, it's solid, people are doing amazing
things with it and sharing results. I'm fully on board.

That is not to say other distros aren't doing these things. Just nowhere
near the rate or pace that they're playing with Ubuntu.

I appreciate that.

I thank my 10th grade English teacher (Eva Miller in Memphis TN,
Messick High 1966 (and hiya, Mz Miller!)) who taught me that it's
easier and much more pleasurable[1] to disassemble someone with
well-chosen words than with invective through which most folks cannot
hear the real message.

I like her methodology still.

[1] for both parties, one because it's a very fine-grained
dis-assemblage and the other because they mostly don't understand and
so don't take offense.
