And probably older than you. Your mother rolled her eyes when she
first heard it from your grandfather.

When people had better manners, no doubt.

Do you think manners have been affected unduly by entropy?

Actually, yes. When I was very young there were manners. Everyone was
polite at all times. Arguments were had but they were reasoned,
respectful and polite.

I am shocked how things have changed. In a restaurant the waiter called
me 'dude' twenty years ago. And it's only worsened. More and more I see
kids doing what adults used to do. And the adults are all gone. Just
walk into a BestBuy in the United States. All of the staff are kids. I
almost want to crack up when one asks if they can help me. They can't
and they wouldn't know how anyway. It's all very casual. There are still
a few normal places around... A few...

Go to the theatre. Where are the ushers? Where is the order? It's now a
place for teenagers. The films, most of them, are Marvel comic book
adaptations. The taxi services are horrible. Uber is taking over, which
means you're going in someone's dirty Carola.

It's just different. It feels like it is decaying. Look at the rudeness,
swearing and bad attitudes combined with a sense of entitlement. It's a
bit much.

If I'd known what was connected to *that* button I never would
have pushed it. I feel as though I owe you an apology, and since
I have nothing to counter your essay (assay?) here it is.

I am sorry for whatever part I may have had in either increasing
this entropy or not slowing it's growth; for poking an obvious
bruise in your sangfroid; and for ruining what was good and
wholesome in your Sunday.

This is the reason I have not been to a movie in 30 years - and it
wasn't rude kids, it was rude grownups.
And given the state of entertainment tech today, I'll never go to a
movie again.

Where I lived, they were called Enco. On trips, I remember my parents
saying "look for an Enco on the right" (that was the only credit card
they had then, and they wanted to keep records of spending). There were
a lot of gas stations then (about 1970), so we could wait for one on the
right.

I didn't know about Esso, except it was one of the logos on the maps.

Exxon is the publicly traded holding, Esso is a bunch of operating
companies owned by that Exxon.

A process per tab or page is actually a good idea in terms of security
since it isolates sites and apps from each other.

I prefer Firefox, but I realize that there are tradeoffs for the way
each browser is designed.

There is no way I could imagine that I'd need more than a couple of tabs
open at a time. My machine has 8 gigs of RAM which now days means "low end".

Performance on my Linux machine is absolutely great.

I also have a Win7 machine with better h/w but the performance of Chrome
or FF is no where near as good.

But good riddance, just in case.

Google is no friend to Linux. Not in any real way.

That statement implying 'dropping of support for linux' is very
misleading. The correct statement would be:

  - chrome is dropping updates for 32 bit linux '16 Mar
  - chrome is also dropping updates for: Windows XP, Windows Vista, OS X
10.6, OS X 10.7, and OS X 10.8 in '16 Apr.
  - chromium continues to support 32 bit linux

Also, many linux distros have dropped support for 32 bits.

Both chrome and chromium quit supporting one of my CPUs a long time ago
because it doesn't support SSE2.

SolydXK dropped 32-bit support several months ago. However
a few of the community members are maintaining it.

It's a petty that x32 ABI didn't have acceptance within distros ...
perhaps don't want to maintain more then needed package version, that
is single one. All in all supporting 32 bits is merely compiling binary
not something one should do...
There is no 32 bit and 64 bit version of chromium I guess...
It would be really stupid to have that...

Below is a list of platforms for which Chrome is available.

     * Windows: XP Service Pack 2 or 3 / Server 2003 Service Pack 1 or later
               / Vista / Server 2008 / 7 / 8 / Server 2012 / 8.1 / 10 / Server 2016

o Support for Windows XP and Vista will end in April 2016

     * OS X: 10.6 or later

o Support for 32-bit Macs ended in October 2014
           o OS X 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8 support will end in April 2016

     * Linux[note 4]

o Support for 32-bit Intel processors will end in March 2016

     * Android 4.0 or later
     * iOS 7.0 or later

http://www.osnews.com/story/28980/Google_ends_32-bit_Linux_support_for_Chrome

"Google ends 32-bit Linux support for Chrome

To provide the best experience for the most-used Linux versions,
we will end support for Google Chrome on 32-bit Linux, Ubuntu Precise (12.04),
and Debian 7 (wheezy) in early March, 2016. Chrome will continue to function
on these platforms but will no longer receive updates and security fixes.

We intend to continue supporting the 32-bit build configurations on Linux
to support building Chromium. If you are using Precise, we'd recommend
that you to upgrade to Trusty.

The first signs of the end of 32bit are on the wall - starting with Linux.
I wonder how long Google will continue to support 32bit Chrome on Windows.
For some strange reason, Microsoft is still selling 32bit Windows 10.
   "

That looks like the shift to 64 bit executables.
Not some earthshaking change in support by OS.

The support by OS is "normal", with end-of-life
products being candidates for removal of support.
Some support extended past end-of-life by a fair bit
(like WinXP and Vista dying on the same day).

HTH,
     Paul

Hopefully, that is all it is. As I don't run any of the others which
have been dropped/are dropped, I'd not see that they had been
dropped/are to be dropped.

I expect there are still people in the Linux world who run a mix of 32
bit and 64 bit versions of Linux and will continue to do so for some time.

Thank you for the information.

Brian
