Well I don't go repeating things over and over for months but for you I
tell it one more time.

What is the point in your reply really? Do you actually think that if one
person has a set of hardware that actually works that this implies that
all hardware works? Really?

If so - do what I told you before- do the testing for "linux" and if it
works for you it must be fine for everyone. That saves a lot of work.

If you happens to know how google works, try searching for Nvidia or
broadcom linux/problems and see what a person who clearly doesn't
understand the first thing of linux had the say about Nvidia.
Oh his first name is linus.

I listened to his rant. He wishes that nvidia would release their full
product code so that developers could make open source drivers. I,
OTOH, (and many many others) think that nvidia should do whatever they
think right. They allow for open source drivers which fulfill almost
all o f the cards' powers. Anything else would put them at a
competitive disadvantage in the market (yes, there is a market for
video cards).

That all said, they do provide enough for Linux users to use their
cards and quite well. You keep on with that, "one set of hardware,"
tripe, but I've owned several (and dealt with others) over the past
years and never yet had any trouble but with the open source driver for
nvidia, never the proprietary driver(s). YMMV (and likely there is a
very good reason for that variance), but it isn't the fault of nvidia.

I know very well it isn't Nvidia's fault that "linux" has no structure
and the linux clowns keep producing more and more incompatible linux
flavors all the time which all require a zillion more repositories and
different installer packages.

Now tell me WHY you come up with your nonsense that your nvidia works it
doesn't change a bloody thing for the people where it doesn't work.
I told you that a couple of times before.

Yeah, we need some dictator to get those freedom-loving "clowns" to
hue the line.

When you're done with that, eliminate all those video-game choices,
e.g. Playstation, Xbox, Wii, PC, 3DS, etc. After all, it's
inefficient that game makers need to support all those platforms.

And what's with car manufactures using non-standard wheels mountings?
If only we had a dictator to make them use a standard wheel interface!
Think of the cost savings!

It goes on and on. Get busy, Stalin.

Or is freedom and choice only a "bad thing" when it comes to Free
software?

Freedom and choice are great when YOU get to choose and it just works.
User freedom of choice is far different from freedom to throw any damn
thing you want into the mix and call it a distro.
Stabilize the default and educate users on how to configure it to THEIR
choice.

Screw 'em. Let them figure it out or go elsewhere. Why on Earth
should a great OS dumb itself down for you lowercase people?

Well that is certainly rubbish. There are not any incompatible Linuxes.
There are different distributions that have different package management
(not too many), different default DE and selected preinstalled software,
etc...

Well *you* managed to have problems, whether or not it is Linux's fault
is debatable (I am being generous here). Installed Linux on a multitude
of nVidia cards with very, very few issues. Fewer issues than with ATI
and Intel. But are video drivers issues confined to Linux? Hell no! Ask
all those folks that did their "free" upgrade to Windows 10 and are now
stuck with the minimal "Basic Windows Display".

Which all require different package managers because they are
incompatible which serves NO goal at all!

If there are 2, there is 1 too many and you know how many there are and
the number is growing as we speak.

Yup more insanity, incompatible DE's

exactly.

Doesn't matter with what brand you had issues, IF you had them too, it is
a problem.
Oh and those people that claim not to have noticed problems with certain
hardware... Most of them don't use dual monitors or a TV screen besides
their monitor. So such problems will remain undetected often.
Same for audio cards and chipsets, I bought one after reading that it
worked so well. Guess what? It didn't!
It worked for 44kHz samples but not for HD audio where that HD chip is
made for in the first place.
Don't get me started about Jack pulse and whatever grap mixers are made
for audio.

> But are video drivers issues confined to Linux? Hell no!

What do you think if "linux" makes a zillion incompatible releases with
NO structure; different or no fixed places where things should be
installed. Can you ask any bran to make a zillion drivers for you?
It is unreasonable to ask such a thing, "Linux" should get there things
organized first, changes are manufacturers are willing to supply ONE
driver then. You know the kind of : " do you want to install this?'
Yes! Done!

I don't care about windows, this isn't a windows group.
Or do you want me to reply as pointless as CybeR ? with :I installed the
driver and have no problem?

Seems to be a real phenomena this day and age in all matters; that just
saying stuff no mater how divorced for reality and the actual facts
makes it somehow "true". No hope of success to counter your fantasy with
facts.

Windows 10 deployment was a clusterfuck. NO argument there.
That's no excuse for the desktop linux situation.
Even with a windows disaster, again, users still can't find their
way to desktop linux.

Linux is not at fault. Linux is a kernel, according to most here, but
only when it suits their ability to deflect issues.
The fault lies with the complete lack of empathy for the user among the
desktop linux developers.

That's what money is for. Let 'em hire the knowledgeable to fix their

Exactly. There is choice. If the product doesn't work for you, you
can go elsewhere, or you can apply economic pressure (spend money) for
change. Those who want everything for free have no right to complain.

Clearly then,n you know either nothing or, more likely, less than
nothing.

I'm merely providing anecdotal evidence of the inability of some people
(you in this instance) to get even the simplest things to work
correctly by showing that it not only can be done, but is regularly
done by ordinary and dim-witted folks like me.

lowercase mike is another fine example of what not to be if you want
to have a workable Linux. The two of you should get a room and stop
bothering the rest of us who actually /CAN/ get things right.

You don't provide any evidence you just talk BS as usual.
Try answering a question for a change and do as I told you,
IF you know how google works.
Then try to help a couple of people who have trouble with nvidia hardware
that DOESN'T work.
See if you still be as arrogant as you are usual. We know you think you
know better then Linus but I don't think that at all.

I am not talking about things that just work I mention stuff that doesn't
but lunatics like yourself cannot accept that and you don't even
understand how utterly stupid you are when you repeatedly contradict
yourself in the most extreme way.
Now have a nice day I am done with your nonsense.
