yes I saw what Jeff Layman wrote..

First check that you've still got a copy of the old kernel installed:
Update Manager | View | Linux kernels | (Continue).

To boot into an earlier installed kernel (from 
<https://www.siberoloji.com/how-to-manage-kernels-on-linux-mint/>)
1. Restart your computer.
2. Hold the Shift key during boot to access the GRUB menu.
3. Select Advanced options for Linux Mint.
4. Choose the older kernel version from the list.

I didn't have a problem with the kernel update and have never removed 
any kernels.
