You may both be overantennad. If you're only a few miles from the
transmitter you shouldn't need a lot of antenna but you do want one with
a lot of directionality, as digital for some reason is highly
susceptible to multipath reflections. So you want the antenna weak
enough and directional enough to keep the reflections below the
threshold at which they cause problems.

Back in 1964 I had a summer job delivering and installing TVs for a shop in Phoenix. The customer bought a sensitive new console TV and a 'deep fringe' outdoor antenna installation for what might have been the closest house to the transmitters on South Mountain. The set was unusable, totally overloaded! My kludge repair was to solder up a resistor pad at the antenna input terminals. -- "No matter how cynical you become, it's never enough to keep up." -- Lily Tomlin

Just a further suggestion, go to www.terk.com and plug in the zip code and they'll recommend one of their antennas. The recommendations they make seem reasonable--I suspect they're more interested in satisfied customers than the quick buck from an excessive antenna. Do NOT use antennaweb--their recommendations tend to be overkill.

I also have to login to get anything useful from terk's > web page. ???? I just went to <http://www.terk.com> from the pi (used the pi because I'm _real_ sure I've never gone to the Terk site from it before) and on the main page was a place to enter zip code. I did. It complained about "please enter correct zip code" or some such, I clicked close on that window, and it after a bit of cogitating recommended two small antennas, provide a list of stations in the area and their expected signal strength, and showed their locations--on the pi the map doesn't show, I suspect because there's some feature not supported in the default browser, but it's a google map on the PC. I don't know where you're going that requires a login.

Other people tend to ignore such things or just shrug their
shoulders. People like BAH (and me) notice these things and try to do
something about them.

True enough, but that does not mean that the problem does not
exist.

Actually, you probably have to choose "United States" in the Country drop-down first, so the form knows what to do with the zip code. John Savard

One signal that gets reflected off of terrain or buildings so that the
reflections arrive at different times. Wavelength of UHF is in the
