Would anyone know with certainly if an old style rotary dial telephone
can dial calls on FIOS lines, lines from the cable company, and similar
such services?

I've heard that they can, they such setups do use regular phones.

Nope

I still have a few dial phones and when I switched to fiber optic, the 
dial does not function

Do your regular phones, e.g. basic 2500 set, still work?

Do you mean specifically FIOS, or some other service?

The dial phones function, just can't dial


I use AT&T fiber optic service...I do not know their specs

It apparently depends on the make and model (and perhaps configuration of) 
ONI that Verizon used at your location.  In my case (and to my surprise) I 
discovered a few years back that my old AECo buttpack phone (which I bought 
back in the 1960s) had no problems dialing phone numbers.

No, I've not tried it recently, so that feature might have disappeared.

If you could tell us the make and model of the interface hardware 
involved, someone could probably tell you. That's what it depends on, 
rather than how the last mile is wired. I can tell you that pulse does 
not work with a Cisco SPA-2102 ATA (VoIP adapter). I believe some 
other ATAs will accept pulse dialing.

That's a different question entirely. The SPA-2102 uses regular phones 
(in my case, including one 2500-style phone with a real bell ringer), 
it just won't accept pulse dialing.

Those phones have the electronics built into them, so they don't 
generate either pulses or tones. Same with a "soft" phone, which uses 
your computer for the hardware and its ethernet connection for the wire.

It depends entirely on the features of the terminal adapter.  The one I
had (made by Huawei) did fine.  A friend in the US reports that his (mfr
unknown to me) does not.

Well in my area dial phones still works on the telco landlines.  We don't have FIOS and I'm not sure about cable but I doubt it.
