Close. It derives from _bous_ "ox" (< PIE *g{^w}ou-s) + _strep{^h}ein "to
turn" ( < PIE *strebh- "turn"). The first _o_ in _strop{^h}edon_ is part of
the nominalization process, going all the way back to Proto-Indo-European. The
word itself is a noun meaning "the turning of the ox".
