If I remember correctly the Jave JRE contains some non-trivial assembler
code for performance reasons.  Doing this once for AMD64 was a big win for
the majority of Linux users no matter what ditro as long as they used
AMD64.

I tried to upgrade an Puppet 3 environment to Puppet 4 some years ago.
The software is free but the build system needed some binary-only library
maintained by Google.  No luck for Debian on S/390...

But yes, endian or 64-bit bugs are probably gone by now.
