For those who aren't aware, decades of usenet archives are available at 
archive.org: https://archive.org/details/usenethistorical

Each file is listed by hierarchy and each newsgroup is it's own file in 
mbox format. I personally use Thunderbird with the "ImportExportTools NG" 
addon which allows me to import the messages directly to Thunderbird. If 
you use Linux you can also import then into Evolution if that's your cup 
of tea. Some of the older messages are always broken and are missing 
dates but for the most part, they are intact and very interesting.
