At my last place of employ, the mainframe batch scheduler used an assembler
"user exit" to determine program privileges. It was written in assembler
because it was called millions of times a day. Unfortunately, when we
came to amend it, our last assembler (or I suppose I should write
Assembler) programmer had retired. We got him back on a consultant
basis to do the work.
