It includes °K for Kelvin. I thought degrees Kelvin went out with high button shoes? Shirley this is not the current authority???? Also it includes an official listing for micron. I thought that was one of the contentious issues, microns were forbidden and the official wording for that dimension was micrometers? I don't see the Pascal on the list, why is that? Why are the CGS units erg and dyne mentioned on a site giving the official SI spellings? I notice the spelling is French (metre). Is there a similar list for English speaking people? Some of these issues are addressed in a note at the bottom of the page. It is not a footnote because footnotes are referenced in the body of the text, these things are not. As far as I know the page you cite is *just plain wrong* and *old*. And it does not even address the main point I was making about the abbreviations for milli and Mega. Please cite something or other so we can at least be on the same page. My best guess, based on what you have said is that there is no acceptable abbreviation for milliwatt or megawatt, two real, practical quantities actually encountered here on earth. I notice you have modified your stand on ignorance, changing from "people" to "most people", thank you for that. I did indeed know, before your post, that there were standards and that the French were involved. I do agree with you that standards are a good thing, but I really think you were hasty in providing this particular link. I need a really big effort to convince me to write °K because if I did most people are going to think I am, to use your word, ignorant. <snip>
