I have read recently, that a Christian sect from what is now Syria had 
fled to the city Merv in what is now Turkmenistan at the Silk-Road.

At that time it was the largest city in the world.
They were opponents to the decisions by the  'concil of Nizea' (trinity 
and godlike nature of Jesus).

They spoke Aramaic and used the title 'mahmed' for Jesus, what means 
something like 'the one to be praised'.

The Arabs later conquered that city and kept the believe, which was 
later transferred into a story centred around Arabic sites.
But actually ment was Jesus, who was actually Jewish and belonged to the 
sect of the 'Essener'.

And this Jesus person is assumed to be a prophet, both in Islam and 
Christianity.

Jews don't have this person, since the Tora is mostly the same as the 
Old Testament and that stems from much older times.
