I'd like to save my very old messages, which are in a single folder, and then delete them from Thunderbird. Is that possible? I've looked online but can't find a way. -- Thank you, Jo-Anne

You sure that your country does not censor or filter certain online
results (notably those related to disposal of evidences)?
Or you have been seal, living in an altered reality. :)

This will save all selected messages as subject-sender-date&time.eml You can read these *.eml files later with Thunderbird or another reader. PS do the folks at nowhere.com know you? If not pick another domain like nowhere.invalid

If you want to reintegrate them in Thunderbird someday later *i would* just zip\compact, copy or move the appropriate folder in the TB-Profile. For more versatile usage of the single mails i would export them as single ***.eml files.

I usually make a folder in "local folders", and then just drag and drop what I want there.
Then when done, I shutdown Thunderbird, open the "local folders" in my profile and move
any folders I don't want to see.
I have about 7 likes this sitting on an archive drive. I've pulled them back and bingo
they just appear.

Is that possible? I've looked online but can't find a way. I only use TBird as the mast recent Email Transit Method. The actual messages on my email server are copied and then deletesd on the server. The resulting emails are still in TBird or whatever in local folders. Standard text messages, my preferance, are easy to view and search with any text tools. If you prefer HTML or other formats the same concept is possible. You are still responsible for their use after you download them. With a single email folder in your email server this is relatively easy to test and perfect on your own. Right click on a message in TBird or your favorite email system, and in Tbird select the Save As option and complete it. The emsil should now be on your computer. It will be where you saved it or in a TBird Folder. Once you have verified the idea you can mass Save As or write a script in TBird to do the save. The copy is on your system, inless if course you use a online folder and then it would be in the cloud. Have fun!

That folder is not in my Thunderbird profile or in Thunderbird's path. In that folder is a Windows shortcut to the file where Thunderbird places my sent messages. On the first of each month, I use that shortcut to copy the send messages to a new file in "old news msgs", which I then rename that new file "news messages xxx.txt" where "xxx" is the month and two-digit year. I then use Thunderbird to delete the messages from its own file. In "old news msgs" I also have a zipped file. When I have more than three "news messages xxx.txt", I add the oldest to that zipped file, deleting from the zipped file the oldest there. Thus, I retain a year's worth of my newsgroup messages. The same could be done with E-mail messages, separately collecting messages from your Inbox and Sent. The zipped file could contain far more than only a year's worth; mine is only 100 KB. -- David E. Ross <http://www.rossde.com> NO, not everyone has a smart phone. My wife and I have "dumb cell phones" and a land-line. Neither of us can handle QR codes, reply to text messages, or have any kind of phone-based Internet connections. We can send and receive photos only through our desktop PCs.
