SubjectUpdate Failed ... Connection refused
Message-ID<110emht$1ioed$1@dont-email.me>
Hello,

My SM v2.53.23 (User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64;
rv:128.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/128.0 SeaMonkey/2.53.23 Build
identifier: 20251124114742) showed me "Update Failed ... Connection
refused" a few minutes ago, automatically and manually. :(

https://www.seamonkey-project.org/ was fine. I assume it is the update
server. What about the rest of you?

Thank you for reading and answering soon. :)

Maybe it's because you're already running the latest version (2.53.23) ?

Update Server problem. The next Beta is done and I hope ewong fixes this then
too when he configures it.

Thanks.

Seamonkey's update has never worked right for me, or it's been so very
long I've forgotten it working. I'm not sure why this is, but it doesn't
really matter because new updates are announced here and other places,
so I know if it's time to visit seamonkey.org and get the new version.

It stopped working for years, but that got fixed a couple of years back
and - depending on your settings - the update can happen automatically,
you can be told that there is an update or nothing happens at all.

That all applies to Windows setups, it's controlled via Preferences >
Advanced > Software Installtion. On my Windows machine, I have it set
to check daily, it then informs me that there's a new level. There's
also a "Check for Updates" under Help.

My Linux machines do not have that option, presumably they've been
compiled that way. No idea about the Apple world.

Yeah, it don't work on my machine. Maybe it's because seamonkey isn't
installed on the C: drive. I've thought about a lot of other things,
but it's really not worth putting in a lot of effort to track it down.

My SeaMonkey IS installed on the C: (only windows drive I have a.t.m.)
and I've just tried Help -> Check for Updates and got an "Update Failed"
screen. Apparently the 'SeaMonkey could not be updated because
Connection refused'!

I have always only ever been on a Mac, but at some point (many moons
ago)it was recommended to always "update" by downloading the whole new
version and temporarily hiding the old one, to see if the new one is
stable/good.

I got so used to that, that I never tried switching back to automatic.

This may leave me a version or two behind, but avoids catastrophe.

My variation of that is to have a test machine, although it is currently
non-functional after another test left me unable to log on (to the
machine) and I had to do a major fallback.
I copy my profile(s) to the test machine because it also serves as a
backup machine, it is six years old now and it normally functions
adequately if a bit slow.
