#17704 — how to avoid buffering?

From"Wendelin Uez" <wuez@online.de>

Subjecthow to avoid buffering?
Message-ID<1130bm1$dnn4$1@solani.org>
On my android smartphone I have assigned following Tasmota commands
http://192.168.178.91/cm?cmnd=Power%20on
http://192.168.178.91/cm?cmnd=Power%20off
to 2 icons namen ON and OFF to switch a Tasmota device on and off by a
single icon touch only.

This works very fine, except that the device's answer page is buffered in
Firefox, and when I switch ON and OFF and again to ON the second ON does not
send again the command to the device but reads the answer page from buffer
showing the previous answer instead of executing switch on.

Therefore to send a second ON I always must terminate Firefox first, f.e. by
removing all apps from memory, and then the second ON icon touch will work.

What can I do to send the command to the Tasmota device even if there is
already an answer page in cache?

ChatGPT suggested to add something like Date.now() to the URL to make the
call unique so that no cache copy can exist, but how can I add this into the
icon's command line?
ChatGPT adviced me to create a new HTML file with JavaScript code in it, but
while calling this file the command was executed properly it didn't work
when the HTML file was assigned to an icon via "add to start screen".

I simply want to touch the ON and OFF icons without having the need to
cancel Firefox first. How can I do that?

This doesn't look like Firefox problem.
Why don't you install a Tasmota control app on your phone?
A Quick search on my phone shows at least 3 available.

Yes, it's not a Firefox problem but a problem I want to solve using Firefox.
And caching pages is a Firefox job.
Of course, I could run another browser - and probably would have the same
problem.

> Why don't you install a Tasmota control app on your phone?

Why should I start an additional app, select the device and toggle its state
when I can do that with a single touch only?

Because you can't, you already tried that, the answer of your device
gets stuck in your browser, instead of an app which monitors its state.

Sure I can, as I explained, you didn't read it?

Let me repeat: "What can I do to send the command to the Tasmota device even
if there is
already an answer page in cache?"

I have no problem if you don't know how to do it, but why do you want to
solve a problem no one has raised?

The simpelest solution ?

step 1: click the shortcut
step 2 : tell the browser to refresh the webpage.

Yes, that's a solution for the last quotation but not for that what I asked
for in my opening question .

Your opening question contained :

What can I do to send the command to the Tasmota device even if there is

Your device sends you a status message, and Firefox can't handle that.
You can try Rudy's solution, but that was likely the first thing you tried.
If that doesn't work write yourself a web page (with a button!) which
acts as the app.
If you can't do that, stop whining and get the app.

My question was

> cancel Firefox first. How can I do that?

Sure, it's not mainly a question for Firefox, but Firefox - and probably
other browsers too - buffers the answer page and does not send the request
again.

My problem is not to send an URLor command using Firefox or any other app
but preventing Firefox from accessing its buffer instead of sending the
request again. If any other app can do this, can Firefox do this also?

What a waste of time, is this your hobby?

I don't think this is a browser/cache problem, the device is trying to
talk to you and you are only shouting ON and OFF.
I doubt a device that's turned off would talk to me, so what does off
really mean here?
Is it stand-by? Is it sleeping? If so, how do we wake up the device?
Shouting ON doesn't wake it up, reconnecting the browser (phone?)
apparently does. Can we wake it up without reconnecting?

All of this (and more) is solved by the app, get the app.

Cheers, and good luck, I'm done with this now.

Maybe so, did you try toggle? Instead of on/off?

No, why should I do so? Even if toggling would work fine switching would
continue making problems.

Why? Is this your first Tasmota device?

Good idea, but I've still not found a way to configure my Android Frefox to
do so - neither by configuration nor by command line parameter. But maybe
I've not searched enough for that.

If by "incognito" you mean "private", I managed time ago to make my
Firefox open private windows by default in Android. I don't remember
how, I know I had to insist a few times till I got it done.

Try appending a time-stamp to the URL, led by a question
mark. It's a typical web programming trick.

http://192.168.178.91/cm?cmnd=Power%20off?2026071612121211

Notice the part "?yyyymmddhhmmss": yyyymmdd is date,
followed by "hhmmss" which is time.

I know this trick, but I don't know how to implement in a one-liner.

Getting this timer value needs a javascript function, but this can't be
called in the command line, and even ChatGPT could not serve with a few
lines html-code solution without additional dependencies. In Wndows I could
construct such a command line even simply in .bat files, but AFAIK Android
has not such ones.
