It depends on which App you are talking about but in Microsoft Office
you can go to options and make sure the documents are saved in a
different location. Microsoft has made it very difficult for people by
changing the rules.

I looked into Word, Excel and Powerpoint, and changed the settings for 
saving the documents to the local Documents account. That worked.
