When you are using a client such as Tb and gmail's IMAP function, you 
see what look like gmail directories but are actually gmail labels, as 
gmail's database uses labels instead of directories.

When you manipulate the data in gmail's apparent directories (actually 
labels) in/with an IMAP client like Tb, there is a 'synchrony' between 
what you are seeing in the Tb IMAP client and the gmail database.

So, you could say that what you see in a Tb IMAP client structurally 
looks like what you see in the gmail webmail display.

However, when you use Tb as a pop client, you don't have the same kind 
of synchrony with the gmail database as you do when you use Tb as an 
imap client.  Tb downloads from the inbox and either leaves the item on 
the gmail server or not.  That's it.

IMAP client-server interaction is an imap client such as Tb and an imap 
server such as gmail's function - but Firefox is not an imap client. 
Firefox is an http client.  It engages the data at gmail with the google 
custom software described earlier.
