It is worthwhile if an application supports it. SLI and CrossFire in a nutshell: Video card: 1 GPU, 6GB VRAM, 1000 CUDA cores. Video card: 1 GPU, 6GB VRAM, 1000 CUDA cores, SLI'd, the app will see it as 2 GPU chips, 12GB of VRAM, and 2000 CUDA cores. Meaning, it will process graphics faster. The problem currently with Daz and IRay, it doesn't have the functionality..yet. So when it does an IRay render, it will load the scene on both cards and run it. If it doesn't fit on the first card, only the second card will run it. If it doesn't fit on either of them, it will do a CPU render. I have run SLI on three machines, using two different slot types. AGP 8X and PCIe x16, the AGP had EVGA 6800GTS cards in SLI on a Pentium IV mobo and XP Pro x64. The PCIe was a AMD X2 4800+ with 7800GTX in SLI under XP Pro x64. Running SLI was an absolute bitch of bullshit, to put it frankly and honestly. I disassembled that mess after seeing how USELESS that really, actually, was. That was back in my early days in here, btw, Dana. Since that time, SLI has 'matured' a bit, probably even works OK, and might even be useful for things other than accelerating the crap out of games. But you won't catch this old man blowing money on it chasing someone elses dream for faster rendering in real time. I see what you're saying about DAZ and their truckload of shitty coding. The way DAZ pushes the whole IRay thing you'd almost expect them to actually have something useful WORKING. They do not. I'm neither stupid or ignorant in the Tech stuff, Dana. Partly self taught, and partly in classroom environment and regimen too. I am not going to profess to be as learned as you in any field. Just want to stand clear between the two of us, ok? In practicing of percentages of amounts of hardware vs the return on that investment of the hardware, SLI is still crap. You use 100% more hardware for a bare 16% return in performance. I won't do that. Better results building a 2nd complete single card system and making it a render cow. 30% gain over the SLI method. BUT, in what WAY do I see that increase? Just faster renders for mediocre scenes? The thing comes down to IF you WANT to mess with it, play with it, and get the actual performance numbers up to YOUR expectations, then that is way cool. Personally I just don't estimate enough value in the process for ME to bother with it. THAT is why I don't mess around with SLI anymore. Pretty simple, actually! :) BTW-the 8800GTX has a grand total of 128 CUDA cores. EEEW! LACKING! I figure to get a new vid card later in the year.. :) and more RAM :D But, the 95W RYZEN 7 3700X octal core 16 thread CPU should be OK for a spell. :D :D McG. Sooo that is greater use of the hardware. DS still lags severely in keeping up. Same old group of DEVS, and same group of programs to work on. Poser. Yeah, one program, one TEAM. I hope we can kick and scream and beleaguer their BOSSES into ok'ing getting the module to load DS content directly. SOON. NOT DAZ SOOOOOON either. :D On 6/2/2020 2:58 PM, Dana Haywood wrote: > It is worthwhile if an application supports it. Well, virtualization has come a long way since 3dfx came up with the initial concept. SLI as it is known now is significantly different and only applies to parallel programming with CUDA cores. CrossFire is AMD's equivalent of that (using OpenCL instead of CUDA). I don't see myself going back to Poser, and not due to Genesis 8 support. The concept is crudely simple, Scan Line Interleave. So, say Left card gets the even numbered scan lines, right card gets the odd numbered ones. That's what we played games FAST with. Games were the only thing that used SLI back when. Today, the needs are smarter, the software and hardware is also smarter. So NOW multiple GPU's mean parallel computering. But hey, that's what the whole CUDA and OCL are supposed to be doing. Now add more cards for more cores. Mmmm no. Why bother? As I see things, the gains, at best, are marginal. Yeah, um, Monster did voodoo. :) I remember that day real well! I was QUAKIN' bud! Har har har! And me and my son were dukeing it out in real time in Quake2 CTF with both our teams gathered around us watching intently as Grandpa And BlackArrow are slappin each other plumb silly! he was in my living room, I was in the bedroom at my desk, and we were wired together precariously with parallel ports/cables. Had to get sneeky back in those daze! That was in, like, 1997. I'd just bought a copy of ZModem protocol so I could use it freely with any program I wanted. $15 Yup! The day of the FIDONET hackers at its pinnacle. They rather used the term "Freedom User". I call it what it is. Thief. Anyway, yeah we came a LONG way Dana! For real! :D McG. Why in the UNIVERSE would DAZ's opinion in what POSER is able to read directly, important even to an ANT, or something equally, dismally removed from all things 3D ??? IT DOESN'T !!!! LOL! They have even OFFERED to help Poser with that very thing. And S-M adamantly refused. Well, I see it as a matter of survival. I LIKE what I have seen in the Genesis 3 and 8 Figures. Though I hate DS the program, I don't hate the CONTENT. And, about ME, DAZ3D has known this from the start. IF DS became something that *I* personally deem USABLE, I will use it. I keep it installed, just hate using it. Sooo. I know exactly what G3 and G8 are like. :) And there are a lot of people that are clamoring for POSER to be made able to load and use all the DAZ Figures directly. Jenn Blake blew up about it. Well, um, THAT lit a different fuse. You reading me still, Jenn? McG. I've never had any luck installing and using DSON. If I could buy a G8 figure and just install and use it like I did with V4/M4, that would be great. I do NOT want to fart around with some confusing DS to Poser bridge though. ALSO: I now have ALL items from THREE orders at Walmart.com IN HOUSE! Except ONE thing. The motherboard. The seller of that Gigabyte mobo cancelled it. They did NOT have one in stock. So what the F*** did you SELL it to me for!@#RY()(@) ARRRGH! So till 3am I looked and looked and looked. Then back at Walmart.com, ONE HIT comes up for any X570 AMD chipset and RYZEN 7 3000 series cpu. One for an ASUS motherboard. I kept looking though, cause of the name of the mobo. ASUS - TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI). TuF Gaming. Right. I want a render beest, not a game toy. Then I exasperatedly read the specs and features. Ho! Its a better mobo by a good bit than the Gigabyte I was so worked up over. Pushed the "PAY" button. So now I'm waiting for the TuF Gamer motherboard. Yep. Sure really am. :o\ yes, everything else IS here. 32gb DDR4, check! AMD Ryzen 7 3000X, check! Yeah, just need the 3rd of The Main Three. I just hope this doesn't go the way of that first one. If it does, me and Walmart.com are going to have some ernest words about THEIR not having any parts IN STOCK. Suddenly they are becoming less than useless.... McG. Both links open the same page, to the Media Creation Tool and instructions. Got that now. It says you have to start with a key to install it. I had to use this page a few times to build a USB drive so I could fix different computers. Those computers already had keys assigned to microsoft accounts (it is not that big of a deal). The benefit is..if windows crashes, and you have to reinstall..you sign-in with your microsoft account rather than punch in that long key again.
