The Counterterrorism Section of the National Security Division has 
supervisory authority over 18 U.S.C. §§ 871 and 879 cases. As great 
caution must be taken in matters relating to the security of the persons 
protected by 18 U.S.C. § 871, United States Attorneys are encouraged to 
consult with the Counterterrorism Section (CTS) of the National Security 
Division when they have doubts on the prosecutive merit of a case. For 
the same reason, dismissal of complaints under 18 U.S.C. § 871, when the

PHOENIX –David Michael Hanson, 41, of Phoenix, was arrested on Wednesday 
for making online threats against the President and Vice-President. 
Hanson was charged by Federal criminal complaint on Tuesday with five 
counts of Threats Against the President and Successors to the Presidency 
and five counts of Interstate Communication of Threats.

The complaint alleges that in November and December of 2023, while 
living in Arizona, Hanson used a social media platform to post threats 
to murder the President and Vice President of the United States. On 
November 19, 2023, Hanson posted online a series of threatening 
statements including one that stated, “#joeAndKamala I’m asking you to 
resign on Monday your alternative is death brutally murdered.” After the 
U.S. Secret Service spoke to Hanson and warned him that it was a Federal 
crime to post such threats, on December 23, 2023, Hanson posted another 
series of similar threats aimed at the President and Vice-President.

Each count of Threats Against the President and Successors to the 
Presidency carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, a fine of 
up to $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release. Each count 
of Interstate Communication of Threats carries a maximum sentence of 
five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and up to three years of 
supervised release.

A complaint is simply a method by which a person is charged with 
criminal activity and raises no inference of guilt. An individual is 
presumed innocent until evidence is presented to a jury that establishes 
guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The United States Secret Service is conducting the investigation in this 
case. The United States Attorney’s Office, District of Arizona, is 
handling the prosecution.

When I was a student I knew someone who introduced himself as "Brendon
with an 'o'". We all called him Brondan.

Eisenhower (1950s) was Republican and a war hero.  Adlai
Stephenson was 'egghead' and Democrats started supporting
more education as generally a good thing. 

Johnson (1960s) gave us the Voting Rights Act, even though

White Flight (1970s) set the working class against schools with
Blacks and without morning prayers (Madalyn Murray O'Hare)
or Creationism. Republican sucked up the support of the less 
educated and more racist, i.e., working class, with Ronald Reagan
(1980s). 

Ronald Reagan had experience as union president to the stars
(SAG), and then had been a TV host who spent years on the rubber
chicken circuit for GE, where he learned to sell extreme ideas without
sounding extreme.  Republican after him still push the myth that low 
taxes for rich people is good for the economy (NOT). Or, shoveling 
money to rich people is good. 

Lately, Republicans have also picked up on the converse idea, that 
spending money to help ordinary people is BAD -- bad for the
economy, probably, but also bad (somehow) sociologically.
Racism comes in there, too -- it may be okay to spend money
on the 'deserving poor' (whites) but a mistake to help Blacks. 

Pollution control and sexism?  I suppose they enter in with the
development of 'identity' politics: people trust the people who seem
to share their values.  Fox News (1995, and on) came along and 
offered credibility to ignoramuses as guests, duping viewers by
using the slogan, Fair and Balanced.

The Republic of Ireland also; there is a Labour party and it was occasionally
in government but it was never as formidable as the German SDP. The
right-of-centre two main parties, both basically comparable to the German
CDU/CSU as the natural parties of government have, however, been relatively
high tax/high spend so post-taxation inequality of income is very limited here.

The RoI never really industrialised in the usual understanding of the word, so
that may be enough to explain a limited voting base for Labour.

It occured to me that voting dynamics in the Philippines would be interesting
on this front, and yeah, no real left/right dynamic:
