Correct. Two bytes for the inode number, and 14 for the filename, in a 16-byte directory entry. Fixed in 4BSD, where the 4.2 filesystem has a variable length filename (up to 255 characters) and a "reclen" field that points to the next (occupied) entry in any given dir. Creating a new file in some directory basically meant doing a first-fit search through the directory file until one could find a suitably sized "slot". Good times. - Dan C.
