If they have to ask, the answer is Mint Cinnamon. > Although there is another very good XP lookalike out there..Zorin? The man who launched the program started with Zorin, had trouble installing it, and moved on to Mint. The problem was secure boot that also bit me when installing Endeavour. He has since went back and installed Zorin but remains focused on Mint. He himself is a newbie having first been introduced to Linux a couple of months ago in an attempt to save the library's Win10 laptops that couldn't go to Win11. He was focused on the laptops in the maker space but it grew. It has given me a new perspective, trying to see Linux through the eyes of a Windows user. I'm not sure how many will ever switch. I had a sister-in- law who was capable of logging on, searching for recipes, and, on good days, sending email. Any Linux distro would be fine but it would terrify her if it wasn't exactly like Windows. I'd never used MATE so I installed that option. From screenshots and from what I've seen on the library laptop I'll be damned if I can see a difference from Cinnamon. I do have Xfce on the Debian box and it's a little different, mainly for the toolbar on top. I suppose it can be put on the bottom but I never bothered.
