I finally did configure things as good as it's going to get, I think. I 
definitely proved that as one gets older, it get harder to figure out 
these sort of problems :-)

Thanks to everyone who replied to the topic. I did a lot of reading 
around and, to be honest, was no nearer. So, I did what I ought to have 
done in the first place and deleted every darned reference to the 
subject and started afresh. I tried again to connect the router to the 
printer. I succeeded first go using WPS. It may not have been available 
on my old router. Anyway - it worked. My desktop is cable connected to 
the router and found the printer straight away. The setting from the 
laptop that I had made before still worked, but straight to what I can 
now call the network printer. Everything on the network can now see the 
printer. Whoopee Do!
