My Canon Pixma MP495 home printer is cable connected to my Desktop running Windows 11 and the desktop is cable connected to my router. The Linux laptop is WiFi connected to the router. By using the Mint printer setup and using "Find Network printer" and entering the printer's IP address on the printer I was finally able to "find" the printer and install a driver from the given list of printers in Mint - but I cannot print to the printer. Anything I send to it is reported as sent to Job1, Job2 etc, but no action results from the printer. The question, therefore, is what am I doing wrong and is there a better way, other than cable connecting theĀ laptop to the printer - which is not feasible? >> >> As I won't often be using the laptop at home near a network I can easily access, question 2 is how do I connect the laptop to a Wifi enabled printer directly by WiFi - i.e. no cables, no network. This would actually be the best method, as I can use it at home and away. I can do it with my smartphone using the Canon app, so I guess it must be possible from the linux laptop? >> >> Regards, >> >> Bob > > Check out the Windows side, as the job may not be heading to spool. > > https://zedt.eu/tech/windows/installing-an-ipp-printer-in-windows-10/ > I'll have a good read through that in the morning. > When a service is added in Windows, presumably the Firewall is auto-configured > to open the appropriate port. Since I last wrote, I've connected the laptop to the router by network cable, and managed to get the printer to work via an lpd://IPaddress/PASSTHRu connection. I just gave it the printer's IP address and let it search. This doesn't solve my problem entirely - only at home with a cable connection, and not by WiFi. However, I still can't see the Windows 11 network from the laptop, nor vice versa - a different problem, but one I need to solve. I can't find a way to share linux directories yet, so I don't expect it to see the network yet anyway (everything has changed since I last used Linux, so all my old notes are useless. A wholely WiFi way would be good. Anyway, thanks for the gen - I'll follow it up tomorrow.
