Nope. I said "but nothing else [1]" for a reason and the footnote
says:

So there's "Nothing for 100's of Ks," and hence also no mobile
coverage (because mobile coverage needs 'something', namely towers).
This is a thing about Oz which - after all these years - never ceases
to amaze me, a phone booth *really* in the middle of nowhere.
Anyway, all of this is of course mainly in jest. I would never rely on
finding a Telstra phone booth in the Back of Beyond when I would need
one.
So for emergency situations - like running out of beer - we carry an
EPIRB/PLB in our 4WD camper(van).
OTOH, when - sort of - stuck on the Oodnadatta track, along comes this
psychiatrist - of all people - with his sat phone and he calls to check
if the road ahead is any better (it was).
So who needs a bloody comm device, just wait for the next
psychiatrist! :-)
