That is certainly true of most of those I know.

It would be interesting to test that claim now that cards are so commonly
used instead of cash and I bet the big retailers have done that.

We don’t have any at the same location anymore.

No, that is because there were far more than were needed
and the very slim margins don’t allow that anymore.

There must be bugger all of those now. We do
have one of those, a fair sized operation between
major towns on a major highway which presumably
sees a lot using it just because its more convenient
to use it than the ones inside the towns. It does get
away with charging a premium on the gas it sells
and is run by obvious recent south asian immigrants.

Corse they can now with apps that do that for you.

Sure, but the other obvious approach is to keep an eye
on the prices when you are getting to say 20% full and
choose to use the cheapest you pass before it gets down
to the 5% or so where you don’t want to risk running out.
