By default LO does use the standard file dialogs on macOS... including hot
key and placement (though it uses a dialog and not a sheet not a big deal).

Just looked at GIMP... thought it did to. Started it and it decided to
change language on me (WHY?) I did have a *secondary* language set up and
resolved the issue by just removing that (can put it back later). It does
NOT use the standard Open dialog. As far as I know that is not an option.
