If you go back and read my original comments, you will see that I have upgraded Easiwriter frequently. I have no need for a DTP package, and I have managed so far with using a text editor for web pages, though I have often thought about buying WebWonder. > > Locate I have, and used a few days ago, and thanked the > > author for it at the time. > Think of how much earlier you could have thanked him if > you hadn't waited so long to try it :-). As posted elsewhere just last week, creating an archive is something I would do about once every three years; I use Infozip for that. > > BookMaker? Oh, I also have Nuke to properly delete files that people send by e-mail with confidential information in - usually credit card data. > > The dozen or so bookmarks I have in NetSurf are easily > > dealt with in a linear file. No. All booking confirmations are Pipedream documents. Other invoices are either produced using an old program originally written for the BBC, or are Easiwriter documents. Pipedream is also used for working out prices and calculating capital allowances for income tax. Booking details are filed and interrogated by using my own BASIC programs I wrote for the BBC. VAT accounts and calculations for the Tour Operators Margin Scheme VAT are done with programs I wrote for the BBC in COMAL. Address lists are kept in Masterfile, which I bought. Documents that are given to customers are also all Easiwriter documents, and so are all my order forms. Some admin documents are done in Draw. The only exception is my booking forms, which were created using ClarisWorks - originally a Mac program, but then also released in a PC Version. [I was told many years ago at an Acorn Show in Harrogate, when the Risc PC was launched, that Claris offered Acorn the source code for ClarisWorks too, but they turned it down and went ahead with Advance(?) instead. If an Acorn ClarisWorks had been available, I would have bought that, but then might well not have Easiwriter.] All e-mail is in Pluto - except when away from the office, when I use ClawsMail on a PC netbook or the e-mail facilities on my Nokia 9300i. There is no e-mail software installed on my desktop PC. Any e-mails that I send from netbook or mobile and need to keep are imported into Pluto once back in the office. The RPC's hard disc is backed up at the end of each working day onto another, networked, RPC uing SyncDiscs. In the olden days I used Hard Disc Companion. The PC is used as described above, and also for Deutsche Bahn's rail and bus timetable software (not available for any platform other than Windows), for a magazine cover disc version of Quicken I use to keep my accounts and for another cover disc program I use to reduce that size of digital photos I am given on CD from several MB to a size suitable for pictures on webpages. The only important data on the PC is the accounts data files, which are backed up to a USB stick, to my dropbox storage, and to a PC partition on the RPC. Open Office on the PC is used to read .docx word files that I get sent by e-mail. They get changed to .doc files which I can then import into Easiwriter. Losing the PC would be a nuisance. Losing the RPC would be a disaster, if it were not backed up routinely onto a second RPC (kept in another room) which I could have up and running on my desk in 5 minutes if I needed to - as indeed I did about six years ago when the PSU in the one then on my desk suddenly went belly up. -- Russell http://www.russell-hafter-holidays.co.uk Russell Hafter Holidays E-mail to enquiries at our domain Need a hotel? <http://www.hrs.com/?client=en__blue&customerId=416873103>
