But as the result there are more. Look, if we construct the set of powers of 2, by starting with 1 and multiplying (a finite number of times) by 2, this set is infinite (and also bijective to N by "decorating" with 2^). Any number from that set, when doubled, is also in that set. Same with the even numbers: they can be divided into the disjunct sets of the odd multiples of 2 and the multiples of 4. Every double of an even number is a multiple of 4. I'm sure you can generalise this. -- Am Sat, 20 Jul 2024 12:35:31 +0000 schrieb WM in sci.math: It is not guaranteed that n+1 exists for every n.

A nonempty set without a first element
is not a set of only finite ordinals.
What we mean by 'natural number' is
'finite ordinal'.

There are sets of natural numbers with first elements
and there is the empty set.
The first.element.free set of
natural numbers from which we obtain
(by doubling) anything not.a.natural.number
is not the first option.
That set is the second option: the empty set.
It is empty.
There is no ▒▒▒▒▒ natural number from which we obtain
(by doubling) anything not.a.natural.number.

What you (WM) are doing is like
'proving' that transcendental integers exist
by declaring a rule "not open to further discussion"
that π is an integer.

The washing of dishes is one of those things
where the basic idea is, when it's deemed
necessary to wash a dish, and for some it's
right away and that's a good way of doing things,
that the idea is that once it's put away,
then you don't go hauling it out and washing it
again just for fun.
What I'm saying is that WM never introduces
anything new so there's no reason to reply,
because, the readership here is already having
the benefit of any needful knowledge about it
otherwise.
Then though besides where it's like neither of
"countable cardinality" nor "asymptotic density"
need attack nor defense, each being a thing,

I have a job washing dishes one summer when what it
is: is that when one turns 16, then they could get a job,
and it was expected, because it was, so anyways I washed
dishes for a couple months, and got pretty good at it,
I'm a pro. Then I got some computer work, yet, that's
because most anybody should know how to do usual menial
things with acceptable quality like manual/manuel labor.
There was this one song in the '80's called "On the Dark Side",
it got very heavy radio rotation for sure, one-hit wonder
of a sort.

The only Google hit for "non-Archimedean integer" is this
Bottazi et alia about Robinsin's useless hyper-reals, ...,
mostly seeming to shill "Easwaran and Towsner, ET", ...
"Earlier in their text, ET do admit an uncountable number
system for reasons of elegance, so as to be able to defend
the use of R as the basic number system. But their insistence
on trimming the language to countable size does not deliver
the desired disqualification of non-Archimedean systems,
since such countable systems can be constructed that admit
no automorphisms, i.e., are rigid ...."
So, the "non-standard countable" is a usual thing.
The only search hit was a cross-mention of Skolem
about non-Archimedean integer, yet apparently
the search results these days are much reduced
and should not be said to reflect more than the cursory,
and indeed reflect a recent dis-accreditation of the corpus.
Anyways the non-standard countable, like Paris and Kirby,
or Boucher, or various sorts of things that have an
infinitely-grand member naturally in the extra-ordinary
naturals, it's a usual concept like Skolem and Mirimanoff
give, in case you wonder how such concepts of course
have plentiful bibliographic after formal reference.
The other usual case than:
half the numbers are infinite
one of the numbers are infinite
none of the numbers are infinite
is
most of the numbers are infinite.
(Almost all of the numbers are infinite.)

Towsner has this
"That is, the nonstandard analyist [sic] and the
conventional mathematician outright entirely
agree on the definition of continuity, they merely
express the notion in different notation.
(Sanders expands on this point in [Sanders, 2016].)"
That is to say, "Robinson is use-less and since
Dedekind is only one notion of continuity",
that since there are others and at least _three_
definitions of continuity (Aristotle, Eudoxus, Nyquist/Fourier),
thusly talk about anything involved in the
non-Archimedean or non-standard countable
(not the non-standard uncountable or "Robinson's
use-less hyperintegers that actually belong to Skolem"),
that those who claim to be talking about foundations
of mathematics yet only have one definition of
continuity, are simply not actually talking about foundations,
only a closed little fragment where their law of large
numbers is the usual law of small numbers (that what's
so for a few small numbers isn't so for large numbers).
Towsner (or Easwaran, "Realism in Mathematics:
The case of the hyper-reals"):
"Here we agree with Bishop, who remarked that
Keisler’s calculus book using the hyperreals
“offers no evidence that the hyperreal numbers
are anything except a device for proving theorems
about the real numbers” [Bishop, 1977]. Connes
makes a similar point. But unlike Bishop and Connes,
we do not see this as a criticism — when one’s goal
is to prove theorems, devices for doing so are
all to the good. Indeed, this is precisely the
strength of the hyperreals: they are a linguistic
tool for keeping track of “epsilonics”, and quantifiers
more generally, in a cognitively easier way without
fundamentally changing our understanding
of the reals."
See, useless.
Then that there are more REPLETE definitions
of continuity, of course may be of interest to
mathematicians and others interested in
mathematical theory like physicists, and here
particularly of the strongly platonist, strongly
constructivist, strongly logical positivist, and
strongly realist sort, particularly.

It's not like we haven't exchanged thousands and thousands of letters, which overall bear at least a surprisingly passing resemblance to civilized discourse, and already have much discussion where it's established there are more than the finite models of things, while also all of them. Then the "limit point" idea of omega, the limit ordinal and fixed point, and also "limit point", yes is intended to convey that it's perceived a topology of the natural integers where they're compact with the usual idea of the one-point compactification which some have as _already exists_ and then that also there's a topology on these thusly and that it's more about the "Integer Continuum" this way. So, it was deemed relevant, and the terms _are_ in terms of each others' definitions, so it's relevant and relevance logic, thus I imagine that it's not simply a rejection of fallacies of quasi-modal logic, then that also it's part of the greater dialectic and showing up that while sometimes it's easy to brick-bat a troll, +how+ it's done is relevant when others can later soft-ball straw-man that, also. Good luck and warm regards, there's a great multitude of infinitary theories and of only particularly the regular, including the regular in the extra-ordinary, and otherwise at least three definitions of continuity, and, maybe always lesser or greater than standard models of integers.

Surely, with your degree in mathematics, you understand that you are depriving yourself of the use of a powerful tool. To describe an indefinite one of an infinite domain is an infinite force.multiplier. But it needs to be only those in that domain, of that description. Loosen the restriction on the discussion, lose the force.multiplier. There isn't much useful to be said about things which _might or might not_ be well.ordered. Etc.

This is foundations - the subject matter and topic is a complete theory of _all_ the mathematical objects, not merely pet theories. You describe a vice-grip, this is both flange _and_ jig. That is to say, when every tool's a hammer, yet every site is both flange _and_ jig. And not merely a nail, .... Then, where it does involve a bit the more mental or reasoning resources than the quaint shadow-box diorama of the pet theorem, more to it: that's foundations. A tower of rain, .... It's like the end of the matrix movies when Neo and Smith are duking it out in the rain, the tower of rain, then that one point where the "force multiplier" of course makes it so that Smith definitely has a numerical advantage - I forget how it ends except basically it just ends. The "Tower of Rain" that is to say is a metaphorical concept somewhere very far above the least initial ordinal in the cumulative hierarchy - so far above there's no far below and so that so far above there's no far above - a tower of rain. I have great facility with plain linear induction, for example noticing that for the case with "this attains to the limit" that there's a contradictory case "and it's not attained", explaining why indeed a course of deductive inference is necessary to understand and correctly explain an actual resolution and establishment of the infinite limit, when otherwise is merely empirical and in the usual sense nominalist and not realist and fictionalist and not realist and fallibilist and not realist - though it's a pet theory that you can pick up or put down very readily. The idea of greater foundations is that it's a greater sort of best pet theory, that's the only one to pick up or put down, with what otherwise is merely reverie. Anyways you still haven't picked "anti and only".
